On the Infinite-Horizon Optimal Control of Age-Structured Systems

چکیده
The paper presents necessary optimality conditions of Pontryagin’s type for infinite-horizon optimal control problems for age-structured systems with stateand control-dependent boundary conditions. Despite the numerous applications of such problems in population dynamics and economics, a “complete” set of optimality conditions is missing in the existing literature, because it is problematic to define in a sound way appropriate transversality conditions for the corresponding adjoint system. The main novelty is that (building on recent results by S. Aseev and the second author) the adjoint function in the Pontryagin principle is explicitly defined, which avoids the necessity of transversality conditions. The result is applied to several models considered in the literature.

Solving infinite horizon optimal control problems of nonlinear interconnected large-scale dynamic systems via a Haar wavelet collocation scheme
We consider an approximation scheme using Haar wavelets for solving a class of infinite horizon optimal control problems (OCP's) of nonlinear interconnected large-scale dynamic systems. A computational method based on Haar wavelets in the time-domain is proposed for solving the optimal control problem. Haar wavelets integral operational matrix and direct collocation method are utilized to find ...
متن کاملOn the Optimal Control of Heterogeneous Systems
Heterogeneity plays an important role in modeling demographic, epidemic, biological and economical processes. The mathematical formulation of such systems can vary widely: age-structured systems, trait-structured systems, or systems with endogenously changing domains are some of the most common. Controls in such systems may be non-distributed (targeting the whole system), or distributed (target...
متن کاملOptimal Finite-time Control of Positive Linear Discrete-time Systems
This paper considers solving optimization problem for linear discrete time systems such that closed-loop discrete-time system is positive (i.e., all of its state variables have non-negative values) and also finite-time stable. For this purpose, by considering a quadratic cost function, an optimal controller is designed such that in addition to minimizing the cost function, the positivity proper...
متن کاملAnalysis of Applying Event-triggered Strategy on the Model Predictive Control
In this paper, the event-triggered strategy in the case of finite-horizon model predictive control (MPC) is studied and its advantages over the input to state stability (ISS) Lyapunov based triggering rule is discussed. In the MPC triggering rule, all the state trajectories in the receding horizon are considered to obtain the triggering rule. Clearly, the finite horizon MPC is sub-optimal with ...
متن کاملOptimal Infinite-Horizon Feedback Laws for a General Class of Constrained Discrete-Time Systems: Stability and Moving-Horizon Approximations
Stability results are given for a class of feedback systems arising from the regulation of time-varying discrete-time systems using optimal infinite-horizon and moving-horizon feedback laws. The class is characterized by joint constraints on the state and the control, a general nonlinear cost function and nonlinear equations of motion possessing two special properties. It is shown that weak con...
